I’m not a real big holiday fan. I used to think it was the commercialization of a religious celebration, but that’s not it. It’s a time of year when the best in people come out, for 60 days, and then retreat back to some forgotten place for 10 months. The reason why I don’t anticipate the holidays is why others do. It makes them all warm and fuzzy to be thankful and joyful at the end of the year.
But what would happen if we could all remember to be thankful and joyful year-round? I don’t mean that fake, out-of-touch thankful and joyful. I mean appreciative of all that we have because it’s what we’ve created for ourselves. Let’s try being nice and thankful in the middle of August. And during March Madness. And wedding season. Graduation. You get the picture.
This is not a call to change though, so please don’t take it as such. It’s a call to awareness. Be aware of who you are in any given moment. We are all created beings, creating our individual and collective reality. Let’s create something spectacular all year instead of just during the holiday season.
